Cogeneration

Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power, CHP) plants are typically sited within industrial parks, simultaneously producing process steam and electricity for on-site use, which gives them higher overall energy efficiency than power-only plants. Only surplus electricity beyond the facility's own needs is sold to Taipower's grid, so grid-injected output fluctuates with the host factory's steam and power demand.

Cogeneration has long been encouraged under Taiwan's industrial energy-efficiency policy and is scattered across industrial parks nationwide. Individual sites are relatively small, but their combined capacity still contributes a meaningful supplementary share of system generation.
