Taiwan Power Generation

Taipower's official operating reserve ratio uses a weather-corrected "available capacity" denominator that cannot be reconstructed from the public unit list (summing net generation over installed capacity from this feed yields a materially different number). To avoid publishing a misleading approximation, this page omits system-wide utilization and reserve-ratio figures entirely.

Each unit's own utilization percentage, however, is the source data's own reported figure and is shown as-is in the unit table.

None of Taiwan's nuclear units currently appear in Taipower's real-time generation feed: Jinshan, Guosheng, and Maanshan have all been decommissioned, and Lungmen (Nuclear Plant 4) never entered commercial operation.

Since Taipower's official forecast peak field is not published in this dataset, this figure is calculated independently by tracking the running maximum of system-wide net generation across today's ~10-minute samples, alongside the exact time it occurred.

Historical overlay comparisons only become meaningful once at least two full comparable periods of data have accumulated (for example, 14 days for a week-over-week view). Each chart shows a countdown until it unlocks automatically — no action is needed once enough data has been collected.

These markers are carried over as-is from Taipower's own feed and reference the footnote list published at the bottom of Taipower's official "Generation by Unit" page.

The most common one, Note 10, marks a unit that is in trial operation before obtaining or renewing its electricity business license — its installed capacity and utilization percentage are intentionally left blank until that's complete. The full list:

• Note 1Installed capacity: generally the design capacity (nameplate rated capacity) of the unit's prime mover or generator, whichever is smaller; for a whole system, the sum of all plant capacities. IPP capacity instead follows each unit's contracted capacity under its power purchase agreement.
• Note 2Net generation: the energy a plant's generators produce that is actually delivered to the grid (gross generation minus the plant's own consumption).
• Note 3Why net generation can exceed installed capacity: (1) some thermal units may temporarily generate above nameplate capacity due to component upgrades, lower ambient temperature, or performance testing — usually short-lived and does not affect annual contracted volumes with IPPs. (2) Purchased cogeneration surplus power contributes to net generation; waste- and biogas-fired capacity is counted in system capacity, other cogeneration capacity is not.
• Note 4Penghu Jianshan covers only the Jianshan plant on Penghu's main island. Kinmen Tashan covers all plants on Greater and Lesser Kinmen. Matsu Zhushan covers only Nangan, Beigan, and Zhushan plants. "Other outlying islands" covers Lanyu, Ludao, Xiaoliuqiu, Lienchiang County (Matsu) outer islands (Dongyin, Dongju, Xiju), and Penghu County outer islands (Qimei, Wangan, Hujing, but not Jibei or Niaoyu). Figures shown are gross generation.
• Note 5Black-start gas turbines at nuclear plant sites have a net peak capacity of 155 MW, but this capacity is excluded from Taipower's system-wide installed capacity; their generation is counted under fuel oil (diesel).
• Note 6Northern small hydro: Yuanshan, Tianbei, Ruanqiao, Shijun connecting canal. Central small hydro: Houli, Sheliao, Jingshan, Beishan, Zhuoshui, Hushan, Jiji South Bank. Southern small hydro: Liugui, Zhumen. Eastern small hydro: Tongmen, Longxi, Shuilian, Qingshui, Qingliu, Chuying, Rongshu, Xikou, Dongxing.
