台中Gas3&4

Taichung Gas 3&4, like Taichung Gas 1&2, are fuel-oil gas turbine units at Taichung Power Plant's site in Longjing District, Taichung City, generally used for peak or reserve dispatch.

Taichung Gas3&4 are sister units to Gas1&2, built in the same first construction phase and commissioned in 1990, each also rated at around 70MW. These four gas turbines were the plant's earliest units, and as coal-fired units are retired and new gas capacity added, they continue to serve as flexible dispatch resources.

台中Gas3&4 (Fuel Oil) currently reports a net generation of 0 MW across 1 unit(s), against an installed capacity of 140 MW (0% utilization).

Fuel-oil and diesel units can start up quickly but have a high fuel cost, so they mainly serve as peaking or emergency reserve capacity. They typically run few hours per year, coming online more often only when system reserve margins are tight or other units are down for maintenance or repairs.

Fuel oil was an important peaking source before gas infrastructure became widespread. As LNG terminals and gas units have come online, its share has shrunk substantially, and it now mainly serves as system reserve and peak-support capacity.
