Plant Overview

Plant

Nanyan Solar, whose name suggests a location in a former salt-pan area along the southern coast, is a photovoltaic project likely built on disused salt-flat land, part of Taipower's renewable-energy solar development.

Nan Yenkuang sits on former salt flats in Tainan's Qigu and Jiangjun districts, completed by Taipower in 2020 with roughly 480,000 solar panels capable of generating about 200 million kWh a year at full output. The site also pairs the array with eight energy-storage containers totaling around 20MW of lithium batteries, making it Taipower's first large-scale solar-plus-storage project.

南鹽光 (Solar) currently reports a net generation of 0 MW across 1 unit(s), against an installed capacity of 150 MW (0% utilization).

Solar PV only generates during daylight hours and is sensitive to cloud cover and sun angle, peaking around midday and dropping to zero at sunset. This produces the well-known "duck curve" pattern — low net load at midday followed by a rapid evening ramp — which places extra ramping demands on other dispatchable generation.

Solar PV has been Taiwan's fastest-growing power source over the past decade, deployed through both rooftop and ground-mounted systems, including "fishery-solar symbiosis" projects that combine aquaculture with power generation on the same land. Because installations are small and highly distributed, solar contributes far more individual units to the unit table than any other fuel category.
