Wo-1 Wind Farm is part of the Greater Changhua offshore wind project cluster off the coast of Changhua County, developed by an international offshore wind developer.

Formally the Greater Changhua Southeast offshore wind farm, this 605MW project is 50% owned by Denmark's Orsted, with the remaining 50% held by Canada's CDPQ pension fund manager and a Cathay Life-led private equity consortium. It shares its turbines with the neighboring Greater Changhua Southwest Phase 1 project, together 111 turbines rated at 8MW each, all installed and grid-connected by February 2024.

沃一風 (Wind) currently reports a net generation of 489.2 MW across 1 unit(s), against an installed capacity of 605.2 MW (80.8% utilization).

Wind has no fuel cost and zero direct emissions, but output fluctuates heavily with wind speed and is less predictable than thermal generation. Generation is markedly seasonal — the Taiwan Strait's strong northeast monsoon in autumn and winter typically produces much higher output than summer. Onshore turbines cluster along the western coastline, while offshore wind farms concentrate off Changhua and Miaoli.

The Taiwan Strait is internationally regarded as one of the world's best offshore wind resource areas, and government-led offshore wind zonal development since 2018 has driven wind's share of generation steadily upward. Wind and solar are the two pillars of Taiwan's renewable expansion, but their intermittency also increases the grid's need for flexible backup such as storage and gas-fired capacity.
